Are you wondering if Jake’s Law can help you or a loved one? Have you asked yourself how you and your family can benefit from Jake’s Law? Here are some questions you can ask yourself or a loved one. This bill touches on all of these areas in some way (big and small).

If you answer yes to any of these questions, then Jake’s Law, HB2764 and SB1523 could help you!  It’s a very long bill with a lot of moving pieces, but we know it will save lives.  Please consider sharing your personal story with your state lawmakers if you have been impacted by suicide, or if you or a loved one have struggled with mental health or substance use issues.

Are you concerned that insurance companies aren’t treating behavioral health equally with physical health, even though it is required by federal law?

Have you or your child been wrongly denied mental health care by your insurance company, but you don’t know where to go to ask questions or file a complaint?

Would your child benefit from receiving mental health services in their school?  Is it challenging managing your work schedule and taking your child to see a mental health provider?

Does your child’s school have a mental health provider on campus, but your private insurance has denied coverage solely because of the provider’s location on campus?

Is your child on private insurance (not state Medicaid/AHCCCS), but you are still having difficulty affording the copay or deductible for mental health services?

Have you been unable to get an appointment with a mental health provider that is in-network under your current private insurance policy?

Have you had to pay out-of-network in order to see a mental health provider under your current private insurance because there were not any in-network options available to you?

Do you believe more can be done to provide access to behavioral health services in schools?

Have you or your child been discharged after being admitted for suicidal ideation or a suicide attempt, and felt confused about how to file an insurance appeal?

Have you or your child been admitted for a mental health crisis and released from a residential facility too soon, and you are unsure where to go for help in the event of another crisis?

Do you believe insurance companies should provide reporting and analysis to the state comparing coverages for behavioral health and medical/surgical benefits?

Do you believe AZ can do more to prevent youth suicide?

Have you ever needed help filing an insurance appeal for behavioral health?

Do you wish there was a single webpage where you could obtain information about mental health parity, a step-by-step guide on how to file parity violation complaints, and a summary regarding insurers’ compliance with mental health parity laws?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, Jake’s Law can help. Please contact your legislators and ask them to vote yes on Jake’s Law.
